The meaning of this title sometimes surprises me, and it may surprise you, especially coming from a blog site devoted to Music! However, if I didn’t believe this, this blog might not have existed. Because the purpose of this site is to discover how music can improve and benefit areas of ministry, not how music will solve all our problems. Music can’t solve all our problems.
Music is not the ‘be all and end all’ over all facets of life. It can’t be.
What it is rather, is a tool.
We use music for all kinds of different reasons, don’t we? Clubs use music to create a space where men and women can hit on each other, restaurants use music to create an enjoyable atmosphere of dining, films use music to move the audience into deeper convictions, Christian choirs use music to share the gospel and truth of Jesus Christ, whereas music recitals use music to demonstrate a certain talent within an individual, and maybe the beauty of the music itself.
Some use music to romance someone, to express their feelings towards an event or situation.
Others can use music to set a ‘stage’, to create a scene with conviction, and/or to persuade others of your beliefs with emotion.
Music is not the be all and end all, although many people can see it that way.
If we all realized that music is actually a tool, and mainly a tool, then maybe we would realize this:
That there is true power (and danger) in the influence music has over us.
This is why my blog exists, in part – to demonstrate that music is more than a sensory experience. If you let it, it can shape and guide your life.
Let us change our perspective. Instead of the thought: ‘music is my life’, rather try: ‘music can deplete or bring more into my life, and the lives of others’.
So let us aim for the latter, and use music as the tool it was made for – for good.
