Music Ministry

The Importance of Music Ministry in Christian Settings

Music Ministry has existed since the creation of the nation of Israel. The ministry of music was assigned to a particular people (the Levites) and their focus was to be on perfecting the ministry of music unto God and for the nation to worship God. This tradition continued during the times of Kings. The Psalms records verses that were commissioned to and from the ‘director of music’ and particular groups such as the ‘Sons of Korah’ were identified as musicians for God’s work at the time.

Today, should it be any different? We see music is used and sung and played by all people, for all people, for all kinds of things. Is it necessary then, that a certain designation be given for Ministers of Music within a Christian setting? Within a church? Of course.

Why do you think we should have music ministers? Or do you think your church could survive without a designated music/worship pastor?

  1. Please i have a strong challenging situation in my music department. One of my singers developed sore-throat with cracked voice for over 4 months now. I have prayed. My prayer team have prayed. She has taken medications yet nothing works here. Do you have any professional, medical, and spiritual advice on this? Please do help me.

    1. Hi Michael!
I am so sorry to hear about on of your singers! I am not a professional and cannot give you professional advice. From experience, I would suggest that you would give herself extensive vocal-rest – if she was sick her throat may still be recovering from healing, and it may take longer than expected.
If she is able, I also suggest lip trills/tongue trills and straw phonation in light quantities to help align her vocal folds and breath support.
Again, sorry to hear about your singer and I pray she gets better soon.

      Stephanie
